Hobby Info for SOH & FriendsOnce every two weeks I will be posting about a hobby or craft from one of our members, or friends of SOH, or just one I find interesting. If you have a hobby or craft you want to share please email me with a description and some pictures. My email address is darksidesm@yahoo.com. Please put “Hobby Time” in the subject and your website logon name so I know who you are.

Thanks

This Hobby Time I am going to share one of my hobbies. Scaled Models. I enjoy building the plastic cars and trucks but I prefer to design buildings and build them. Since I am currently working on this project it will take a few Hobby Time’s to get it done. Enjoy!!!

Click on "Read More...." directly below for rest of story.

(Thank you for clicking through!)

How to build a Scaled Model Garage:

1. The first step is to of course draw up the plans. You can do this using computer software or draw it up on paper with a pencil. All you have to do is pick your scale.

2. Depending on the scale of the model you can use your paper drawing as a template and lay the wood down on top of the lines or you can scale off the paper / computer drawing, measure and cut. The second way is lots of fun.

I started by framing up my walls using basswood:

I try to make my models as real as I can so I decided to pour a concrete slab using “Stepping Stone Mix”. I started by laying out the dimensions and using my already glued walls, I glued down some anchor bolts to attach the walls to the slab. I also put some screws in the wood in a grid pattern to act like rebar and hold the concrete to the wood surface.

Then I glued down a wood frame to form the concrete.

Then finally I mixed and poured the concrete.

Thanks for reading. Keep coming back to see how this model turns out!

For now this is Darkside^SOH^ signing off. Remember - I'd love to feature one of your hobbies real soon!
